One Home for Conservation Data: The Laikipia Conservancies Data Hub

The Goal

A central data hub and set of dashboards that help Laikipia Conservancies Association and its members track results, report to donors and compare impact.

Overview

Laikipia Conservancies Association (LCA) is a member-led group that brings Laikipia's conservancies together to keep land connected and wildlife moving. Each member collects data in its own way, which makes it hard to see the whole landscape.

We created a measurement framework (MEAL) and standard data model, then built a central hub on ArcGIS. Field teams submit activities, wildlife observations and threats with Survey123 on their phones, and the data lands in the hub with its location.

Dashboards show different people what they need: LCA sees landscape-wide targets, donors see project results, and each member conservancy can compare its progress with others. The hub also pulls in data from EarthRanger, SMART and other survey tools so everything can be seen on one screen.

The work ran in two phases: first requirements, data standards and a working prototype, then full build, integration with other systems and user testing.

What we did

  • Measurement framework (MEAL) and a standard data model across all members
  • ArcGIS central hub with Survey123 mobile data collection
  • Separate dashboards for LCA, donors and individual conservancies
  • Connections to EarthRanger, SMART and other survey systems
