Overview
In Kitui County, we implemented a project that uses geospatial data and technology to boost sorghum farming. By mapping farms with data on land ownership, soil types, and expected yields, we created a comprehensive farm registry. Our Geo-IT tools enable efficient storage of crucial farm records like crop yields and irrigation plans, replacing manual processes. Furthermore, we've integrated Geo-AI and Machine Learning to analyze farm data, identify trends, and optimize resource allocation, such as strategically positioning agricultural extension officers to better serve farmers based on predicted needs and productivity.
What we did
- Database of sorghum farmers and mapped farmland (ownership, terrain, soils, expected yield)
- Farm records for crops, irrigation and equipment
- Dashboard that shows where to place extension officers
